What a Guy

John makes breakfast on Saturday. Is is sort of a tradition at our house. We usually have pancakes or waffles. Today was waffles. Our waffle iron is an antique. John's Nanny made waffles on it for him when he was a kid.
In addition to making a good breakfast he also likes to cook on the smoker. Today he is smoking ribs, potatoes, and corn on the cob. We have some friends coming over for dinner this evening. I need to get busy cleaning this morning while John is doing some sanding in the hall. Once he is done we have to get some primer on the walls. It is going to be a busy day.

More Home Improvement Fun

I am just waiting on John to get home so we can head to the store. We have high hopes of getting lots done this weekend. The current plan is to get all the trim in the hall primed and painted. In addition, we are going to prime and paint the hall walls. I know we said we were going to just paint the doors in the hall, but plans have changed. We are going to replace all the existing doors with six panel doors. With all the painting that needs done, I don't think we will get the new doors up this weekend. Hopefully, next weekend we can get them up and the new hardware installed. The tile will not be installed until next month. We are having a 25th anniversary party for some friends on the 28th, and I would like the house to be somewhat orderly for the celebration. It will be nice to have a little break before we start laying the tile. We have never done tile before, so I am sure it will be fun. Have a great weekend.

Blooms

One of the flowers in the front bloomed. I am pretty sure they are daffodils. It was looking pretty sad so I decided to pick it and bring it in to warm up. The cat immediately took it out of the vase and ran off with it. Once I recovered it, I put it in the family room so I can lock the cat out.It has been in the mid twenties the last few nights, but it should warm up this weekend. I hope we don't get any more cold snaps. Have I mentioned I am ready for Spring.

Life in Mississippi

This was one of the stories in the Metro Section of the Clarion Ledger today. Mississippi is an interesting place to live. At an elementary school in Hattiesburg they celebrate Cotton Picking Day as part of Black History Month. The kids could pay a fee to dress like slaves instead of wearing their school uniforms. Some parents complained, so they decided to replace it with career day.
There was another story in the paper several weeks ago about a high school somewhere in Mississippi where they are having an integrated prom this year. Apparently, it is only the second year for it. Even though segregation ended many years ago, the school continued to have separate white and black proms. Stories like that really surprise me. Maybe I am just naive.

Any Guesses?

These are growing in my yard and also in the corner of the flower bed. I am anxious to see what they become. Right now I am leaning toward daffodils, but I really don't know. Any ideas?

When will I Feel Like a Grownup?

I keep thinking it will happen. Who knows, maybe this will be the year. As you can see, John and the kids left me a banner. They are some pretty sweet boys. In honor of my birthday I came home and ironed clothes. I think I may sweep the floors next. It is amazing what a mess teenagers can make. It may take me a few days to recover from the Super Bowl party. It was fun, but I'm glad I don't have a house full every weekend.

Happy Birthday Kristina!

Today is my lovely wife's birthday.

Love you, hope it is a great one!
